This one has more of a Saw vibe to it, or perhaps "Jigsaw" (the movie) in the villain who, much like the puppet-turned-murderer, also has a penchant for always being one step ahead of the authorities and the protagonists.Thus, this is a very different kind of Succubus novel. Not as much fantasy, and no new stuff to speak of in terms of worlds, monsters, characters, etc. It's a revisitation of previous settings and even characters, though the latter could be discerned from a glance at the cover.The final twist (not the answer to the riddle; that part was just confusing) was a solid cliffhanger to end on, leaving all sorts of questions to be answered in a hypothetical (but hopefully not final) 9th installment.Everyone is on point, the the length of conversations with Ian's co-worker Luna can go a bit too far in length. It's not that she's a bad character, it's that there comes a point where I start to grow tired of the American cultural banter and want to get back to the plot. But, these conversations do serve a purpose, hopefully one that's tied to where I think the author might be going with this.I don't want to spoil it, but let's just say that the one cultural reference never made by the characters (unless I missed it) was to one of James Cameron's more famous movies. Believe me, you'll make the connection once you get to the end. If you haven't read this series from the beginning you really should. Each book is intriguing with its storytelling. It's funny, it's charming, it's sexy, and it's hot! This series isn't like a lot of gamelit in that it doesn't focus on the MC leveling up as the main component. Rather, it focuses mainly on telling the story and the leveling up and advancements made by the characters are components in the story.This book moves at a frantic pace spanning nearly all corners of Otherworld. A new and deadly opponent, A few reunions with old acquaintances, and some new acquaintances are introduced. A very good read that everyone should enjoy.
